ISAAC CHOI OF PEACH COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL IS NAMED PAGE STAR STUDENT

Star Student-Teacher

Isaac Choi, high school senior, has been named 2018 PAGE STAR Student for Peach County High School. The announcement was made last month by Tom Morrill, chairman of the Peach County Chamber of Commerce.  Isaac is the son of Hye Lee and Sung Choi.  He selected Ms. Erin Lycett, his AP World History teacher at Peach County High School, as his STAR Teacher.

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, in its 60th year, is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Education.  Since its inception, the STAR program has honored more than 26,500 students and the teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic achievement.  To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017, we will experience a solar eclipse of the sun. The eclipse will begin around 1:00 p.m. and peak around 2:40 p.m. It will be a phenomenal event, and perhaps one that we will never experience again in our lifetime.

Each school will provide students with meaningful learning opportunities to help them learn about the eclipse. Because the eclipse will pose some safety challenges, anyone planning to view it should wear a pair of solar viewing glasses. We have purchased every student a pair of solar viewing glasses.

We will not have early release for students; however, we will make every attempt to ensure students are wearing their solar viewing glasses and enjoy this once-in-a
lifetime event! Below are our dismissal times:

Peach County School System Transitions to Peach County Charter School System
The Georgia Department of Education presented school districts in Georgia with three (3) options for use of greater flexibility to improve student achievement.  The options allowed school districts to operate as one of the following types of school systems:
1. IE² System
2. Charter System
3. Status Quo System
After considerable research, attending numerous workshops and numerous board meeting presentations on each of the options, Peach County Board of Education (the “Board”) decided that the Charter System was the best option for Peach County Schools.  The Board unanimously approved the Charter System option on June 2, 2015.

High School Math Options for 2015-2016 math binder clipart

The State Board of Education approved new traditional/discrete math course options. Starting with the 2015-16 school year, high schools will be able to offer integrated or traditional/discrete math. Surveys conducted by the State Board of Education and Regional Educational Service Agencies found that many educators desired a choice between integrated and traditional/discrete math.  Read to find out what option Peach County High School has chosen. It is very important that students discuss their college and future plans with their school counselor and parents. It is always important to review the admission requirements of the college or university the student wishes to attend to be certain the student is registered for the courses that are required by that college or university for admissions.

The Technology Day Rally at the fair is the first of three state competitive venues where members of the Georgia Technology Student Association (TSA) meet and compete against each other with their design and technical prowess.  Out of the eleven competitive events, the Peach County TSA chapter competed in three; the mousetrap vehicle, architectural renovation, and catapult design.  The members worked on their products for three weeks in their Engineering Concepts class and on their free time.   All of the products had to be checked for meeting specifications before they can be tested or interviewed.
