SSAS Award

ssasByron Middle School is a winner of the 2018 Single Statewide Accountability System (SSAS) Award. Byron Middle School earned a Silver Award in the Greatest Gains category for exhibiting high growth in student achievement, meaning the academic growth over the last three years has been in the top 5% of schools in the state. To be a Silver winner we met the following criteria: A) Place between the 95th and 97th percentile statewide in the average CCRPI progress score over the last three years; B) Remain in the same CCRPI Single Score range over the last three years; and C) be excluded from the Turnaround school list. This award is a  collaborative effort among teachers, paras, and parents working with the students to achieve this award. Byron Middle School is one of 112 Greatest Gains schools in the state and one of only 27 schools to receive the 2018 Silver Award for Greatest Gains. This award corroborates what we already know - Byron Middle School is the best!

Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017, we will experience a solar eclipse of the sun. The eclipse will begin around 1:00 p.m. and peak around 2:40 p.m. It will be a phenomenal event, and perhaps one that we will never experience again in our lifetime.

Each school will provide students with meaningful learning opportunities to help them learn about the eclipse. Because the eclipse will pose some safety challenges, anyone planning to view it should wear a pair of solar viewing glasses. We have purchased every student a pair of solar viewing glasses.

We will not have early release for students; however, we will make every attempt to ensure students are wearing their solar viewing glasses and enjoy this once-in-a
lifetime event! Below are our dismissal times:

Peach County School System Transitions to Peach County Charter School System
The Georgia Department of Education presented school districts in Georgia with three (3) options for use of greater flexibility to improve student achievement.  The options allowed school districts to operate as one of the following types of school systems:
1. IE² System
2. Charter System
3. Status Quo System
After considerable research, attending numerous workshops and numerous board meeting presentations on each of the options, Peach County Board of Education (the “Board”) decided that the Charter System was the best option for Peach County Schools.  The Board unanimously approved the Charter System option on June 2, 2015.
