First Lego League Super Regional Tournament hosted by Robins STARBASE – Museum of Aviation
Warner Robins, GA, January 22, 2018 — The Byron Middle School STARBASE 2.O robotics competition team, Big Hero Aqua, advanced to the First Lego Super Regional Tournament hosted by Robins STARBASE held at the Museum of Aviation on Saturday, January 20, 2018. It was fun-filled and rewarding for the team members to participate in the tournament. The team’s motto is, “It is not about winning, but about getting better!”
For this year’s theme, “Hydro Dynamics,” team projects explored ways people find, transport, use, and dispose of water. In addition to research projects, teams participated in Core Value activities demonstrating their team dynamics, and shared strategies about building and designing their robots in the Robot Design competition. In the technical part of the competition, the teams built and programmed an autonomous LEGO EV3 robot from LEGO bricks to solve as many missions as possible within a limited time.
After competition and judging, Byron Middle’s Big Hero Aqua earned the Robot and Design Strategy Award and had an overall performance improvement from the qualifying regional tournament hosted at Byron Middle School on December 22, 2017. STARBASE Robins sponsors Byron Middle School’s team. It is a wonderful partnership in educating students about STEM related careers through its after school program, which also provides mentors.
Georgia Tech will select the teams to advance to the FLL Georgia Gwinnett College State Championship (GGC) to be held on February 3, 2018.
