Board of Education Names Superintendent Finalist

After a search that began in April 2018, the Peach County Board of Education has named Dr. Lionel Brown as the finalist for the Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Brown currently serves as Executive Director of Secondary Operations for the Houston County Schools. He has 24 years of experience as a teacher, coach, and building level administrator.

The naming of the finalist culminates three months of intense search activity by the Peach County Board of Education. In April, the Board employed search consultants KingCooper and Associates to assist with the search. With the help of the search firm, the position was advertised, candidates screened, and lengthy interviews conducted. With the naming of the finalist, the Board must now wait at least 14 days before taking an official vote to employ Dr. Brown.

Write To Ride

Who will meet the growth challenge?"  This has been the buzz question for some time now in Mrs.V. Davis-Watkins' four ELA classes.  Her students were presented with a challenge to increase their writing score on the EOG/Georgia Milestone Test.  The most growth gained by one boy and one girl per class will receive a "Write To Ride" bicycle.  A number of students showed significant growth and were given an increase in Brain Bucks to spend at the class auction.  However, the most growth challenge was met by Kyliah Johnson, Bryan Cervantes, Khamari Avant, Kodie Baldwin, Angela Martinez, James Hannor, Sherlyn Sanchez, Hannah Nelson and Khalique Johnson. It was a joy teaching and challenging all of the 6th grade students. Looking forward to challenging the next set of students.

The Choice Bus Visits FVMS

The Choice Bus visited Fort Valley Middle on Feb. 27th.  It is an experience based learning tool designed to show people the power of education, as well as the likely consequences of choosing to drop out of school.  It contains a full scale replica of a prison cell! Students learned about the potential earnings of a drop out versus a high school and college graduate.  As students exited the bus, they received a pledge card and were asked to make a commitment to finish school and make good choices! The Choice Bus is sponsored by the Mattie C. Stewart Foundation.
