Board of Education Names Superintendent Finalist

After a search that began in April 2018, the Peach County Board of Education has named Dr. Lionel Brown as the finalist for the Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Brown currently serves as Executive Director of Secondary Operations for the Houston County Schools. He has 24 years of experience as a teacher, coach, and building level administrator.

The naming of the finalist culminates three months of intense search activity by the Peach County Board of Education. In April, the Board employed search consultants KingCooper and Associates to assist with the search. With the help of the search firm, the position was advertised, candidates screened, and lengthy interviews conducted. With the naming of the finalist, the Board must now wait at least 14 days before taking an official vote to employ Dr. Brown.

PreK Registration Preschool News Graphic

Registration for Peach County Pre-K will begin, Monday, March 5, 2018 and lasts through Friday, March 23, 2018.   There are 22 slots available at each elementary school. Guidelines and registration packets are available for download below. Registration packets may also be picked up at Hunt Elementary, Kay Road Elementary, Byron Elementary and the Peach County Board of Education beginning March 5, 2018.

The slots will be filled using a lottery process. Completion of the registration packet by March 23, 2018 does not guarantee your child a slot in the Pre-K class but does guarantee that your child’s name will be entered in the lottery for a chance to earn a slot. The lottery will be held on April 2, 2018. All applications for students received after March 23rd will be placed on a waiting list. Please visit our website or you may visit or call the schools for more information on our pre-k registration.

All completed applications should be returned to the school you are registering your child for. Remember priority will be given to students within a school’s attendance zone.

Solar Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017, we will experience a solar eclipse of the sun. The eclipse will begin around 1:00 p.m. and peak around 2:40 p.m. It will be a phenomenal event, and perhaps one that we will never experience again in our lifetime.

Each school will provide students with meaningful learning opportunities to help them learn about the eclipse. Because the eclipse will pose some safety challenges, anyone planning to view it should wear a pair of solar viewing glasses. We have purchased every student a pair of solar viewing glasses.

We will not have early release for students; however, we will make every attempt to ensure students are wearing their solar viewing glasses and enjoy this once-in-a
lifetime event! Below are our dismissal times:
