Early Intervention Program The Early Intervention Program (EIP) is a major focus of education reform in the state of Georgia. Georgia CODE 20-2-153 Early Intervention Program mandates that the State Board of Education and local education agencies create and provide an Early Intervention Program in Kindergarten through grade five. The Early Intervention Program is designed to identify students who are performing below grade level, to provide identified students with the accelerated instructional resources needed to reach grade-level performance, and to exit them from the program in the shortest time possible. Students in Peach County are selected based on performance on the State Criterion Referenced Competency Test. Others may be selected based on the results of a state-designed checklist. A score less than 300 indicate that a student is in need of services provided through the Early Intervention Program. Georgia CODE 20-2-153 requires that the school “… provide timely notice and an opportunity for a conference with the student and his or her parents or guardians to discuss the student’s academic performance and the role of the EIP Program. The State Board of Education requires a ten calendar-day notice for a conference. For further information, contact Dr. Woody R. Freeman, Special Projects Director. |
