What a thrill it was today to announce that the Peach County School System was no longer on probation with SACS. While I was sure that the Board of Education and the leadership in this district were doing the right work to address all of the concerns about governance, I still went through a period of time holding my breath, wondering if I had made sure that we had actually done everything we could. We had.
I'm sure you are wondering why we were placed on "warned" status, instead of being completely released. SACS is just making sure that we can continue what we have started, that the seating of the new board will result in our moving forward as opposed to going backwards again. I have no doubt that our new board will work together for the good of the students in Peach County.
So, what is the lesson that we all have probably learned through all of the trials that were faced by this county over the last 2 years? From my perspective, we have learned and are still learning that all of us together are much, much smarter than any one of us alone and if it really does take a village to raise a child, the first step is getting the village to work together. Yes, we may have a ways to go with that, but there is no doubt that we are much farther along than when we started.
