I am a native of Toledo Ohio and a graduate of Mercer University. I have completed 30 years of military service in the United States Air Force band program, and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. My duties included the Unit First Sergeant, the Unit Training Manager, Operations Specialist, Director of the Woodwind Quintet, and the Bagpipe Band. I’ve deployed to Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan in 2007 and again in 2009. Performances include the 50th Anniversary of the Berlin Airlift in Frankfurt Germany, the 2000 Budokan Marching Festival in Tokyo Japan, and many prestigious parades and events. As the instructor and lead bagpiper for the Air Force, I’ve had the distinct honor of leading the Irish Prime Minister, the President of the United States, and the Speaker of the House through our Nation’s Capital on Saint Patrick’s Day for 15 years. I currently lead the Mercer University Pipes and Drums, and perform with many bands and orchestras in middle Georgia.
I have the experience of an instructor under pressure, and I excel in demanding circumstances. I know the disciplines required to achieve high goals, and expect accomplishments with good attitudes. I am a proactive and organized planner. I express my ideas clearly and communicate instructions by the numbers. I want a strong music program containing as many enthusiastic student musicians as possible. I believe that every student needs to associate themselves with the school, by contributing to a team or an activity. As a professional musician in the United States Air Force, I’ve experienced the pride of contributing my talents to an organization bigger than myself, and understand the sacrifices necessary for team accomplishment. I know that as a music teacher, I can provide a structured environment for meaningful learning in music, while providing the experience and guidance to mentor students to become young responsible adults.
