Mrs. Sellers is from Perry and began teaching at Fort Valley Middle in 1997 after teaching for 4 years in Albany, GA.  She has spent most of her teaching career in the 6th grade classroom teaching ELA. She holds a BS in Middle Grades Education from Georgia Southwestern State University, a M.Ed. in Reading from Georgia Southwestern State University, and received certification in Library Media from Georgia College and State University.  Mrs. Sellers is married to Billy Sellers.

Henry David Thoreau said, "Reading can inspire, reading can provide good companionship, reading can fortify human freedoms, and reading can bring people together.  This is the power of reading".
Our goals in the FVMS Media Center are:
-To develop life long learners who love to read
-To develop students who are information literate and ready for the 21st Century
-To provide resources to our faculty and students that support our curriculum

One tool we use to help foster a love of reading is the Accelerated Reader Program. It is based on the fundamental principle that practice improves reading.  It combines the power of computer technology -Accelerated Reader - with a set of sound teaching strategies in a new and effective way.  We call this combination Reading Renaissance.

Reading Renaissance is so successful because it enables teachers to give their students large amounts of reading practice, and helps them monitor and guide that practice.  We believe the result is a continuous growth of students' reading skills and ultimately the development of a life long reader.   Research shows that students who read for just 1 hour per day are more successful in school.
