Byron Elementary School
Safety Patrol

Byron Elementary is proud to have a quality group of students as members of our School Safety Patrol.  The purpose of the patrol is to help keep our school safe by preventing accidents from occurring and to develop leadership qualities in our members.  Being a member of the safety patrol is an honor that carries a great responsibility and a lot of dedication.  Students are chosen based on their character and academic record.  Students are recommended by second, third, and fourth grade teachers as candidates for safety patrol for the following year.  During the month of April, chosen candidates must write a paragraph stating why they would make a good safety patrol and interview with the safety patrol coordinator.  All chosen candidates must also attend the two-day safety patrol camp in June of each year.  Patrols develop responsibility, an attention to duty, alertness, dependability, and a sense of social obligations.

Safety Patrol members are selected based on:

Sound Judgement           Leadership         Courtesy
Reliability                          Maturity               Punctuality
Good attendance            Good grades      Desire to help others
Respect for classmates.
