Providing nutritious meals to our students is our commitment to the Peach County community. We recognize that well-nourished children are better equipped to learn. Providing healthy food and nutrition education are the key ingredients in educating students to make choices that will develop into life-long healthy eating habits. We have a commitment to excellence, a devotion, and passion for child nutrition. Our program is an enhancement to the educational programs of the District – HUNGRY CHILDREN CANNOT LEARN. The School Nutrition program is operated under the federally funded National School Lunch Act and the Child Nutrition Act. All federal laws regulating the program are administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), through the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). The program objectives are to safeguard the health and well-being of students by providing nutritious food in a safe environment at NO COST and to help ensure that participating children gain a full understanding of the relationship between proper eating and good health. Dear Parent or Guardian:
Peach County School Nutrition will continue to participate in the USDA Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) through the National School Lunch Program. CEP permits eligible schools to provide meals to all students at no charge, regardless of economic status. CEP is available to all students enrolled in Peach County Schools. To qualify, a school or district must have 40 percent or more students eligible for free meals based on direct certification. Children are considered directly certified if they live in households that participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR). In addition, foster, homeless, runaway, and migrant children are included in the directly certified category. Schools will be re-evaluated annually to determine if they continue to meet CEP criteria.
What does this mean for you and your children?
All students are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to the household each day of the 2022-2023 school year. No further action is required of you. Your children will be able to participate in this meal program without having to pay a fee or submit a Free and Reduced Meal Application.
Breakfast and lunch is provided at no cost to your children; however, supplemental sale items such as chips, ice cream, drinks, etc. will be available for purchase. These items can be purchased with cash, a check payable to PCSNP (Peach Co School Nutrition Program) or funds on the lunch account. In order to prevent any charges to your child’s account, purchase of supplemental sale items cannot be made if the child does not have cash or money in their meal account.
Finally, please encourage your children to maximize their eating experience by selecting all meal offerings. This will not only give them a more satisfying experience, but also provide them with the opportunity to eat more fruits and vegetables.
