Child Find

The Peach County School District ensures that all children who have disabilities, from age 2 1/2  to 21 years of age, who reside in Peach County, and who are in need of special education and related services are identified, located and evaluated.  Children attending approved non-public private schools, highly mobile children, children placed in health care facilities or state institutions within the geographic boundaries of Peach County are also included in the child find process. To find more information about Child Find, please click Here.

Section 504

Section 504 is a civil rights law, and must be applied within the public school setting. Congress envisioned a statute that would protect broadly against educational discrimination in the classroom. Educational services that are included are extracurricular activities, nonacademic services, facilities and academic awards.

Multi-Tiered System of Supports

A Multi-tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a “tiered system of support that integrates assessment and intervention within a school-wide, multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavioral problems. MTSS is a large system of tiered interventions that is widely considered an umbrella framework that includes “whole child” data, responses, and growth (achievement as well as attendance, behavior, and social emotional).

Preschool Special Needs

When the District becomes aware of a child between the ages of birth to three (3) years of age who has or may have a disability, a referral is made directly to Babies Can't Wait.

For students who are transitioning from Babies Can't Wait to preschool special needs services, the District participates in a transition planning meeting with Babies Can't Wait for the purpose of affecting a smooth and timely transition.  The planning process includes the development of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) which is implemented by the child's third birthday.
